Omanhene worried about poor academic performance

Asokore (Ash), Jan. 11, GNA – The Omanhene of Asokore Traditional Ar= ea, Nana Susubribi Asante Krobea, has raised his concerns about the poor academic performance of schools in rural communities. He said the consistent fall in the percentage passes scored by schools in the area at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) was worrying. Nana Asante Krobea asked parents and guardians to accept the responsibility for the situation.

Addressing a mini-durbar to mark the 93Akwasidae” festival at Asoko= re, he said during his recent tour of some schools to learn at first hand the challenges they faced, he was amazed to find out that many of the children often stayed out of school. They prefer following their parents to the farm than sitting in the classroom. Nana Susubribi Asante Krobea said the teachers are working hard and it is up to the parents and guardians to encourage the children to show some level of seriousness. He said it should not be lost on them that it was only through education that they could assure their young ones of a secured future. Nana Susubribi Asante Krobea pleaded for the extension of the school feeding programme to more rural schools. He made a personal donation of GH¢1,000.00 towards the organization of a mock examination for final year students of the Junior High Schools (JHS) in the district. The District Chief Executive for Sekyere East, Mr Kwadwo Addae, praise= d the Omanhene for his personal contribution to the development of education in the area.

He pledged the resolve of the government to create the right environment for effective academic work in schools.
