Omanhene urges active participation in National Identification registration

Apam (C/R), July 18, GNA – The Paramount Chief of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area, Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, has advised chiefs and queenmothers in the area to encourage their people to actively participate in the National Identification exercise before it closes in the Central Region on July 23. Obrifo Ahor Ankobea gave the advice when he visited some registration centres to assess progress of the exercise. He pointed out that the government and donor partners had invested heavily in the programme, therefore it behoved every Ghanaian, especially chiefs to ensure its success.

Mr. Louis Yaw Mensah, District Registration Officer, said 161 registration centres and five mobile teams had been created in the district. He mentioned shortage of materials such as registration forms, A5 sheets and cartridges as problems facing the centres. Another challenge, he said, was the influx of people from neighbouring districts to register. Mr. Mensah hinted that there would be the need for a mopping up exercise in the area after the close of the registration on Wednesday.
