Old VANDALS retain El-Alawa as President

The Old Vandals Association, the alumni of the Commonwealth Hall of University of Ghana has re-elected Alhaji Razak El-Alawa as the National President of the Association.

Alhaji El-Alawa, a Media Consultant, was by popular acclamation re-elected to lead the Old Vandals for another two years at its ninth biennial national congress held in Bolgatanga, in the Upper East Region.

A release issued to the Ghana News Agency, on Thursday, in Accra, said the ninth biennial congress was on the theme: “Managing Ethnic Conflicts, the Role of the Alumni Associations”.

It said Alhaji Lemuna Muniru, Upper Eastern Regional Minister, called on the Old Vandals not to relent in their efforts to find solutions to ethnic conflicts in the country because of their national spread.

The release said the congress also endorsed and retained Mr Isaac Nketia Sarpong, a Chartered Accountant and an Associate Director of EY, formerly Ernst and Young, as Vice-President, and Mr Eric Kwaku Owusu-Donkor, Director of Audit at Ghana Audit Service as Treasurer of the Association.

It stated that Mr Francis Avornotse, former Assistant National Secretary And Deputy Head of under Writing at Phoenix Insurance, was elected the new National Secretary to replace Mr Kwame Takyi, a deputy director of Ghana Immigration Service, who has stepped down after 12 years.

“Mr Joseph Ahinful Biney, Branch Manager at ADB Kaneshie comes in as the new Assistant Secretary”.

The release said Mr Richard Otwemah, former Greater Accra Regional Organizer and formerly of Vodafone, was also elected the new National Organizer to replace Dr Clement Apaak who also stepped down due to pressure of work.

It said the new executives were sworn in by Mr Agboloso- Mensah and Mr Afoko Amoak, both members of Council of Elders of the Old Vandals, in the presence of Prof Frank Nyame, Vice-Master of Commonwealth Hall.
