Old student sets up award scheme for discipline

Cape Coast, March 22, GNA – The General Manager of AngloGold Ashanti, Bibiani branch, and an old boy of Aggrey Memorial Zion Secondary School, Mr Peter Amponsah-Mensah, has set up an annual award scheme to promote a high sense of discipline among students in secondary schools, particularly those in his alma-mater.

According to Mr Amponsah-Mensah, the awards which had been in operation at the Aggrey Memorial Zion Secondary for some years now, gives out cash and learning materials to deserving students. It is being implemented in honour of his father, Mr James Amponsah-Mensah, known to be highly disciplined father. Mr Amponsah-Mensah said his action followed the growing act of indiscipline among the youth in the country and asked parents to strive to inculcate high moral values in their children.

A special Fund had been established to generate adequate resources to support the scheme. It is dubbed: “The James Amponsah-Mensah Award for Discipline and Exemplary Character.”

Mr Amponsah-Mensah said the scheme was principally designed to supplement the efforts of the school authorities.

“It is my prayer that the scheme becomes one of the most competitive and prestigious awards in the country in future”, Mr Amponsah-Mensah added.
