Old Mawuli Students unhappy with School’s Administration

Ho, April 2, GNA – Mr Bright Amusu, President of the Tertiary Institutions branch of the Old Mawuli Students Union (OMSU) on Saturday, expressed worry about the administration of the school and the decline in the institution’s academic performances.

Mr Adusu made these observations in an interview with the Ghana News Agency during the Union’s annual Inter-Tertiary Congress at the Ho Polytechnic.

“This progressive academic decline from grace to grass in a school synonymous with academic excellence in the past was due to lack of discipline and commitment from the school administration”, he alleged. “It is embarrassing to know that the once serious learning environment had been changed into a night market by hawkers” he lamented.

Mr Adusu noted that complacency seemed to have set into the performance of a good number of teachers most of whom had over-stayed their postings and that no amount of efforts by the Parents Teacher Association (PTA) to motivate them seemed to be working. “Some of the students we interacted with complained that these teachers are irregular and not punctual”, Mr Adusu said. He therefore suggested that “these teachers must therefore be transferred to other schools perhaps they could be motivated at least by the new environment”.

Mr Adusu expressed the hope that there was still the opportunity to change the situation for the better if all the old students would show keener and practical interest in the affairs of their alma mater. The three days congress under the theme, “Old Mawulians, setting the pace for national development”, ends on Sunday with a Church service at the School.
