OLAM supports school building project

New Abirem (E/R), April 26, GNA – OLAM Company Limited, a licensed cocoa buying company has presented a cheque for 20 million cedis to the Kwaboadi community in the North Abirem District towards the construction of the local Authority Primary School building.

Mr Seidu Abdul Samed, Oda Zonal Co-ordinator of the company, presented the cheque to the community leaders at the end after a two-hour communal labour at the project site. He said the money formed part of a revolving fund under a “support the farmer programme” instituted by the company to improve the lots of communities in cocoa growing areas.

Mr Samed urged the community to pay back the money on schedule to enable others to also benefit from it. He asked them to be loyal to the company by selling their cocoa to it to enable them enjoy more of its social responsibility facilities. Nana Ofei Boateng II, Chief of the area, who received the cheque, expressed appreciation to the company for the support, adding that the money would help speed up work on the school building, which is estimated to cost 270 million cedis.

The District Assembly is contributing 15 percent to the project while the people are also receiving assistance from the Social Investment Fund to fund it.

Mr Wisdom Nyumuyo, Oda District officer of OLAM, commended the people for recording the highest yield in the district and urged them to regularly maintain their farms to produce more yields.
