Okyenhene on Visit to South Africa

The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin is in Durban, South Africa ahead of a delegation to attend the Vth World Parks Congress of the World Conservation Union. The Okyenhene who has been invited together with Nelson Mandela, Queen of Jordan and the Zulu King, His Majesty Goodwill Zwelithini is expected to deliver an address on the theme “Africa’s Vision and Aspirations on Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development”.

The World Parks Congress, is a ten yearly event convened by the World Conservation Union is of major significance for all national parks and other categories of protected areas throughout the world. The congress will be attended by more than 2,500 world experts and Heads of State, Ministers, Heads of UN Agencies and CEO’s of Multinational Conservation Organizations. While in South Africa, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin will pay a courtesy call on the Executive Mayor of Mogale City as well as address a Special Council Meeting of Mogale City Local Municipality. Mogale City has expressed an interest in twinning with East Akyem District, one of the eight districts in Okyeman.

He will also hold discussions with the King of Bafokeng Nation and meet with business leaders of Johannesburg. He would also meet with the President of the South African Conference of Traditional Rulers.

The Okyenhene is accompanied by Osabarima Darkwa Woe II, Kwabenghene and Okyeman Gyasehene, Osabarima Kofi Boateng III, Akwatiahene and Nana Asante Bediatuo Apagyaghene among others. This is the first time the Congress is taking place in Africa.
