Okyenhene celebrates fifth anniversary of enstoolmemt

Accra, Oct. 6, GNA – The Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia would on Friday begin a 10-day celebration of the fifth anniversary of his enstoolment with the line up of activities focusing on his convictions of the unity of Okyeman and Ghana, education and rights of children, HIV/AIDS and the environment.

The Okyenhene, who was enstooled in 1999, would spend three days of the celebration devoted to planting trees across Akyem Abuakwa, according to a statement released on Wednesday in Accra.

“This is both a practical and symbolic gesture by Osagyefuo to emphasise his hope for the future, commitment to the protection and promotion of the well-being of the natural environment and greening of the land of his people,” the statement said.

During the tree planting exercise, the Okyenhene, who is the Chairman of the Board of the Environmental Protection Agency, would travel to a number of towns and villages to talk to the people, enjoy their hospitality, encourage and inspire them to continue to be guardians of the environment.

He has received international recognition for his work in environmental protection over the past five years. Other activities include a symposium under the theme: “Akyem Abuakwa – The Way Forward”, a mini durbar at Kyebi and a Thanksgiving Service.
