Okyenhemaa calls for extension

Kyebi (E/R), April 30, GNA- The Okyenhemaa, Nana Adutwumwaa Dokua, has called for the extension of the education on social auditing in reducing poverty to the rural areas where majority of the citizens live.

She explained that, such education could help mobilize the people to participate in the formulation and implementation of development projects in their communities which would contribute to hastening the development of the country.

Nana Dokua was speaking at a public lecture on the “Citizen’s role in social auditing in reducing poverty”, organized by the East Akim District Secretariat of the National Commission on Civic Education(NCCE) at Kyebi at the weekend as part of activities marking this year’s celebration of the Constitutional Week in the district. The lecture was attended by religious leaders, hairdressers, tailors, dressmakers and heads of departments of the East Akim District Assembly.

She called on the people to study the Constitution to know the areas which could benefit them and society as a whole. Mrs Esther Apreku-Nyarku, East Akim District Director of the Department of Social Welfare, called for the building of the capacity of the people through education, if they were expected to effectively participate in the social auditing of developments around them. She noted that if everybody knows his or her role in society, social auditing would be one of the common processes of developing society.

The East Akim District Director of NCCE, Mr F. M. K. Boafo, said every public figure, who is in-charge of public funds had the responsibility to account to the people on his or her performance. He called on people to show interest in development projects around them to understand conditions and monitor their execution to enable them to fully benefit from them. 30 April 06.
