Okoe Vanderpuije wins Ablekuma South seat

Accra Mayor Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije has won the Ablekuma South parliamentary contest.

Mr Vanderpuije, who stood on the ticket of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) got 19, 984 votes while his closest rival, Jerry Ahmed Shiab of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) got 16, 524 votes.

The National Democratic Party’s Goodman Baah polled 9 votes while the Progressive People’s Party’s Ishmael Paa Kwesi Longdon polled 117 votes and independent candidate Abdullahi Obadia Squire got 49 votes.

The results are all provisional. The Electoral Commission is yet to certify them.
