Theresa Lardi Awuni has called on the Suaman District Assembly to urgently release funds allocated to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) taking part in its apprenticeship programme.
The Okaikwei North MP, who is also a member of Parliament’s Local Government and Rural Development Committee, said the money must reach the beneficiaries for whom it was intended.
She also asked the Assembly to submit evidence of the payments for verification and stressed that the funds must be distributed to the correct recipients.
Ms Awuni said ensuring the money reached the intended beneficiaries was important to promoting the inclusion and well-being of PWDs.
She made the remarks when the Suaman District Assembly appeared before the Committee to present its 2025 Annual Statement by the Audit Committee.
The hearing was attended by Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs) and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) from the Western and Western North Regions.
Separately, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has called for better conditions in mortuaries, greater public awareness of blood donation and improved confidentiality in the relationship between nurses and patients.
The Committee made the recommendations during a session with officials from the District Health Directorate under the Ministry of Health.
The officials were answering questions relating to the 2025 Auditor-General’s Reports.
Committee members raised concerns over unearned salaries, unserved bonds, revenue that had not been accounted for and audit findings that remained unresolved in selected district health directorates.
They directed the officials to review the outstanding audit issues, submit updated responses and ensure that all audit recommendations were fully implemented.
