Ohio University President visits Volta Region

Ho, Nov. 9, GNA – Dr Roderick McDavis, President of Ohio University in the USA, as part of his three-day visit to Ghana, has interacted with the chiefs of Asogli State to cement the bond of friendship between that Institution and the region.

Students of Ohio University visit the region regularly on cultural exchanges which give them academic experience in African cultures through the visual and performing arts. This was contained in a press release issued by Professor Komla Amoaku, Director of the Institute for Music and Development based in Ho on Tuesday.

The release said Dr McDavis would discuss the establishment of a West African Ohio University for the African Child in the region in affiliation with the Institute for Music and Development. His visit to Ho, the release said, was to acknowledge the role the Volta Region and Ho in particular played in creating the environment and opportunity for students from the Ohio University to study the African culture through the Arts Programme since 2006.

It said Dr McDavis would also inspect the American University’s Summer Study Abroad Facilities at Freedom Hotel in Ho. The release acknowledged that the African Culture Programme, under which the Ohio University students visit the Volta Region, was directed by Dr Paschal Younge, who hails from the region and Dr Younge Zelma Badu-Younge.

Dr McDavis would be Guest Speaker at the seventh graduation ceremony of the African University College of Communications (AUCC) on Wednesday.
