Cape Coast, May 9, GNA – The Oguaaman Union, a development-oriented society comprising citizens of Cape Coast, is raising seed money of 500 million cedis to support the education of school children in the Central Region.
The Union has so far raised about 200 million cedis and has also acquired computers and accessories for the training of junior secondary school (JSS) students in the municipalities in computer literacy. The President of the Union, Mr Ted Bernasko made this known when the management of Tigo, a cellular phone service providing company, presented cheque for 75 million cedis towards the “Oguamaa Educational Development Fund” at a ceremony at Cape Coast on Tuesday. Mr Bernasko said as a start, the Union would liaise with other organisations in the selection of brilliant but needy JSS students for support.
He expressed gratitude to the Company for its support and gave the assurance that the money would be put to good use. Presenting the cheque, Mr Tis Mark Inja, Chairman of the Company, said the donation was part of their social responsibility to assist in the development of education. He expressed the hope that the money would be used judiciously to encourage the Company to provide more support. The Managing Director of the Company, Mr Gareth Townley also underscored the importance it attached to the development of education. The Regional Director of Education, Mrs Justina Torjagbo stressed the need for parents in the Region to attach importance to the education of their children.
He commended the Union for its objectives and expressed gratitude to the Company for its support. 9 May o6
