Oguaa SSS cannot fully re-open unless it rains

Cape Coast, April 28, GNA – Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) within the Cape Coast Municipality, particularly in Cape Coast, whose re-opening dates have been postponed due to a water crisis, cannot re-open unless “it rains and continues to rain”.

The Central Regional Chief Manager of the Ghana Water Company (GWC), Mr Godwin Dovlo, who stated this when Ghana News Agency at Cape Coast called him on Wednesday, said the water level in the Brimsu dam, which supplies water to Cape Coast and its environs, continued to fall. According to him, the level of the dam, had on Wednesday, reduced by three inches, from 14 feet to 10 inches, on Tuesday.

It would be recalled that the regional directorate of education, caused an announcement to be made in the media, postponing the re-opening dates of such schools, with only students in their final year, being allowed to report.

Asked whether the 10 tankers secured by the company to augment water supply could not be used to serve the schools to facilitate their early re-opening, Mr Dovlo said the population of the schools are such that the tankers cannot serve them “adequately”.

According to him, they were also being used to augment water supply in various communities in the municipality.

Water production and supply in the municipality, has reduced to 1.8 million gallons a day, from the normal production and supply of 3.5 million gallons a day.

The government, has meanwhile, awarded a 20 billion cedis contract for the improvement of the water supply system in these schools, Mr Edumadze, told the GNA on Monday.
