Cape Coast, July 03, GNA – Almost all the banks in Cape Coast on Tuesday experienced smooth change over from the old currency to the New Ghana Cedis and Pesewas.
Ghana News Agency (GNA) toured some of the banks and Mr Mac Patrick Agbecornu, Branch Manager of Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) said they had not encountered any difficulties and their customers and non-customers were attended to smoothly.
He said there was no rush by the public to change their monies because everyone was aware that the re-denomination exercise was on-going for the next six months.
Mr Kwabena Tachie-Asankomah, Manager of Cape Coast branch of National Investment Bank (NIB) and Reverend Samuel Okai-Holm, Public Relations Officer of the bank said they had not experienced any rush or panic from the public.
However, they advised anyone who encountered problems with the conversion of the new currency, to contact any bank for assistance and not anyone for assistance and urged people without bank accounts to open accounts.
Mr Ransford Darfour, Deputy Manager of SG-SSB in Cape Coast said the bank had not encountered any difficulties.
Ms Marian Amandeh, Manager of Barclays Bank, said business took off smoothly.
Mr Eric Amar, Cape Coast Branch Manager of Ghana Commercial Bank, (GCB) however, told GNA that instead of beginning work at 0830 hours, business begun at 0935 hours because of a technical problem with their software.
He explained that the problem affected all the 133 branches of the bank nation-wide and it became difficult for them to be linked to their headquarters through the software.
“We could not serve our customers who came to withdraw money or those who wanted to know their balances, ” he added. He said pensioners who were to be paid their pensions over the counter, as well as non-customers who were at the bank to change their monies into the new currency were served. 03 July 07
