Oguaa court acquits and discharges driver

Cape Coast, Oct. 12, GNA – An Oguaa circuit court on Tuesday acquitted and discharged a 26-year-old male nurse employee of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital who knocked down and killed an 80-year-old woman on the University of Cape Coast-Elmina highway. Emmanuel Kena Addo pleaded guilty to two counts of reckless driving and causing harm but the court presided over by Mrs Florence Kai Otu considered him on the grounds that he paid all medical bills and later bore all the funeral expenses of the old lady after her death. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Samuel Obeng Addo told the court presided over by Mrs. Florence Kai Otu that on Friday, May 6 this year, Addo was driving a Toyota Camry saloon car with registration number GW1329Z towards the University of Cape Coast west gate. He said Addo knocked down the octogenarian, who was then crossing the road and she was rushed to the hospital but died while on admission. Council for the accused, Mr. Michael Arthur Dadzie had earlier pleaded with the court to deal leniently with his client, because the incident was purely an accident.
