Oguaa Chief praise Joe Ghartey

The Paramount Chief of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osaberimah Kwesi Atta II, has commended the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Ghartey, for not engaging in politics of insult since he entered into politics.

Osaberimah Atta stated that Mr Ghartey, who is a true son of the land, had done everything possible to maintain the image of the region throughout his political career, hence the need for the chiefs to always be proud of him.

The paramount chief praised Mr Ghartey, an aspiring presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), when he paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Cape Coast, on Friday.

The Second Deputy Speaker was in his home region to visit some of the registration centres in the area and to formally inform the chiefs about his intention to contest in the up-coming presidential race of the NPP.

He donated five crates of minerals, five crates of Gunnies, five crates of beer, a box of schnapps and an undisclosed sum of money to the traditional council to support the upcoming Oguaa Fetu Afehye Festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of the area.

Earlier, Mr Ghartey visited some registration centres where he appealed to Ghanaians to endeavour to register in the ongoing limited registration exercise being undertaken by the Electoral Commission.

The registration exercise which began on Monday, August 4, is geared towards offering Ghanaians who have attained the minimum voting age of 18 years and other adults who do not have their names in the Voters’ Register the opportunity to do so.

He visited some registration centres in Cape Coast South and Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK).

At the Cape Coast Castle and Amanful registration centres, 53 and 61 people had registered, respectively, as at 12.30pm on Friday.

Mr Ghartey attributed the low turnout to the poor publicity made by the Electoral Commission before the commencement of the exercise.

Mr Ghartey was accompanied by the Regional Secretary, Mr Kwamena Duncan, and some regional and constituency executives of the party to the registration centres.
