Kumasi, Dec. 10, GNA- The Oforikrom Constituency National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday elected a lecturer for the 2008 parliamentary election at it primaries.
Mr Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, 44, of the Department of Biochemistry and Technology of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) polled 110 out of the total 218. He defeated Mr Amidu Gariba, an Accountant and Assembly Member for Anloga electoral area in Kumasi at a congress held at the KNUST Community Centre.
Mr Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the NDC, called on party members and supporters to remain united and committed to the ideals of the NDC.
He commended delegates for comporting themselves and stressed that if “people say there is problem at Oforikrom then it is not in the NDC but rather within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).”
Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, National Organizer of the NDC, said the NDC had targeted to win the Oforikrom seat.
He said the NDC if voted to power would create a party with human face, which would be about the welfare and survival of the people. He said the defeat of the NPP was clearly written but it was refusing to recognize it, saying the NDC would use peaceful, legal and truthful means to wrest power from the NPP.
Mr Baba Jamal, NDC Deputy National Secretary, called on members of the party to continue with the membership drive at all levels to ensure overwhelming victory for the party in the 2008 Election. Mr Terlabi thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and called on NDC members to unite and support him to enable him win the seat. The Electoral Commission led by Mr Samuel Owusu-Afriyie, electoral officer for Oforikrom, Asawasi and Asokwa, supervised the election.
