Ofori-Atta to brief Parliament on $2.25bn bond today

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta will today (Wednesday) appear before Parliament to present full documentation on the controversial issuance of the 2.25 billion dollars bond.

This is after the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Mike Oquaye last week directed the Minister to adequately brief the House on the matter within a week.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority who have insisted that the issuance of the bond is shrouded in secrecy caused the directive to be issued the Minister.

They have also accused the minister of conflict of interest in the dealclaiming he sold majority of the bond to a firm owned by his former business partner and also caused a $5b financial loss to the state in the transaction.

The group has gone ahead to petition the United States Security and Exchange Commission on the matter.

The Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu in a record 30 minute motion urged Parliament to summon the finance minister to provide the House with the relevant information on the matter.
