Officials from Plymouth University visits Takoradi

A three-member delegation from Plymouth University in the UK, has paid a working visit to the Sekondi Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (STCCI) to find areas of collaboration.

Mr Tony Rea, Consultant on Higher Education to the Plymouth University who led the delegation made up of Jessica Randell Head of International Development and Valerie Huggins, Associate Head Partnerships, said already there is sister-city collaboration in terms of education and health with Plymouth city and the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA).

Last year, 30 surgeries were performed under the “operation hernia “project while a team of four from the Ahantaman Girls School visited the Plymouth City on an exchange programme.

He said the two cities have ports identical with the twin city.

The Plymouth relationship with the STMA would also look at strengthening businesses in the two cities and form stronger partnership for growth.

Mr Ato Van-Ess, Chairman of the STCCI expressed gratitude to the Plymouth and applauded the STMA for the giant step in bringing the two cities together.

He said the chamber recognises education and training as a pillar to develop the human resource base of the country.

He said a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the Takoradi Polytechnic and the chamber on the modalities for training small and medium scale enterprises, to apply best business and economic skills in doing business.

Mr Vincent Annan, Chief Executive of the Chamber said the STCCI would embark on a trade mission to Plymouth Chamber to network and form business partnerships.
