Official calls for a ban on drivers loading outside lorry parks

The Central Regional Chairman of the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), Nana Yaw Fayah, has appealed to the Agona West Assembly and Swedru Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) to help enforce the law; banning drivers from loading outside lorry parks.

He said such drivers, who are not under any drivers’ union, do not pay fees to the Assembly and Internal Revenue Department.

Speaking to the press at Agona Swedru on Friday, Nana Fayah said, these recalcitrant drivers chose to load at unauthorized places including traffic lights.

“They also refuse to abide by any word of advice about safe driving and other safety measures; on the grounds that they are not under anybody,” he said.

Nana Fayah said, these drivers were doing more harm than good to the transport unions and Agona West Municipal Assembly in the areas of revenue generation and had become hostile to the transport services in the Agona West Municipality.**
