Ofankor-Nsawam dual carriageway opened to traffic

Accra, April 9, GNA – The Ofankor-Nsawam duel carriageway project has substantially been completed and opened to vehicular traffic on Sunday, after almost two years of reconstruction works.

A statement from the Ghana Highway Authority on Sunday said works started on the then single-lane road in June 2004 and was scheduled for completion in June 2006 at a contract sum of 28 million dollars, which was provided under a loan agreement between the governments of Ghana and People’s Republic of China.

With the substantial completion of the 17.4 kilometre road project, the road can now be used as a dual carriageway with no restriction of vehicular traffic to a single lane as was done periodically when reconstruction works were in full swing on the road.

“It must be noted, however, that some minor works are still on-going along the road”, the statement said.

It urged motorists to drive carefully and observe all traffic signs that have been provided to ensure the safe use of the road.
