Odumase comes third with the highest teenage pregnancy rate

Madam Agnes Kusi, the District Chief Executive for Sunyani West, said Odumase runs third out of the 27 districts in the Brong Ahafo Region with the highest teenage pregnancy rate with a resultant high rate of unsafe abortion.

She noted drugs and substance abuse has also been identified to be on the increase in the district and appeal to Nananom, religious leaders and parents to play their respective roles and live up to their responsibilities to curb the menace.

Madam Kusi said this in a speech she delivered during the 58th Independence Anniversary parade held at Odumase under the “Achieving Transformation through National Unity.

She called on the pupils and students to take the opportunity offered them by the government, teachers and parents to cultivate the spirit of discipline, hard work and respect for authority for a brighter future.

The DCE emphasized the importance of technology, but cautioned the youth to be wary of the dangers the new technology poses to cultural and social values in order not to fall prey to cyber-crimes and sakawa.

Madam Kusi stressed the need for national unity, adding that the ethnic and cultural diversity in the country is a source of strength and not weakness.

She therefore called on the citizenry to choose the country over all political parties hatched or yet to be hatched, indicating the national pledge enjoins citizens to uphold and defend the good name of Ghana.

Mr. Ignatius Baffour- Awuah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani West offered to sponsor Miss Gyabaa Adwoa Serwaa Esther’s education to the University level.

Miss Gyabaah Adwoa Serwaa Esther excelled and came first in last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the region. She also recieved a certificate and other consolation prices from the district assembly.

The Notre Dame girls Senior High School (SHS) in Fiapre came first in the match pass and received a set of jersey, football, a certificate of participation from the assembly and a thousand Ghana cedis from the MP for the SHS division.

At the Junior High division, Bofourkrom SDA JHS came first and received a certificate, a set of Jersey, football from the assembly and Five hundred Ghana cedis from the MP.

Odumase Presby Primary came first for the primary division and also received a certificate, a set of jersey, football from the assembly and Five hundred Ghana cedis from the MP.
