Odike and two others defend activities in UFP

The United Front Party (UFP) 2012 Presidential Candidate, Mr Akwasi Addai alias Odike, and two other leading members of the party, have defended the conduct of regional executive elections, saying it was proper and constitutional.

There was absolutely nothing wrong or unconstitutional about the opening of nominations and subsequent polls to pick new officers to run the affairs of the UFP, a statement issued in Kumasi said.

The statement issued by solicitors of Mr Addai, the party’s General Secretary and Deputy Secretary General , Mr Samuel Bekoe Owusu, and Mr Razak Kojo Opoku said.

It was in reaction to questions raised over the propriety and constitutionality of the exercise by Mr Stephen Forson, Acting National Chairman.

The trio expressed surprise at the behavior of Mr Forson considering the fact that he himself has picked nomination forms to contest the National Chairman position.

The statement said the party had successfully elected its regional executives in seven out of the 10 regions , which were supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).

It said the UFP is now poised to finish with the remaining three ahead of the national congress to elect national officers and flag bearer on February 14.

They accused Mr Forson of failing to live up to his responsibilities – refusing to call meetings, attend or chair national executive committee meetings of the party and said his inactions would have killed the UFP if they had not acted to save the situation.

“In his absence the party could not have stood still and waited for him to get back from his self-imposed leave of absence and thus ruin their chances of a successful campaign in the next general elections,” the statement said.
