Oda Women’s Committee presents items to orphanage

Akim Oda, Nov. 4, GNA – Members of the Akim Oda Women’s Committee of the Local Council of Churches on Friday presented a number of items valued at more than 20 million cedis to the Countryside Orphanage at Bawjiase in the Central Region.

The items included bales of second hand clothing, fruits and provisions, bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, toiletries and sachets of “pure” water among others.

Presenting the items, on behalf of the committee, Rev Mrs Victoria Wayoe, Officer in-charge of Akim Oda Presbyterian Education Unit and Trinity Congregation, expressed the hope that their modest contribution would assist the orphanage in catering for the children. She assured the authorities of the orphanage that the gesture would not be the last, adding that the Committee would mobilize resources to donate more food items to the orphanage soon to ensure that the children were well fed at all times.

The Supervisor of the orphanage, Mrs Emma Boafo Yeboah, who received the items thanked the Committee for the generosity and appealed to other groups to emulate them.

She said the main problem facing the orphanage was the high cost of electricity bills and prayed for the day when a philanthropist would come to their aid by assisting to pay their bills.

Some of the Committee members present at the ceremony were the President, Mrs Gladys Agyepong and Secretary Mrs Joanna Broni Kingful. In a related development, members of the Akim Oda Children’s Bible Class has donated 200,000 cedis cash to the Children’s Ward of the Akim Oda Children’s Hospital.

The President of the Club, Mr Bartholomew Carter, presented the money on behalf of the Club made up of JSS Students. Mar Eric Boateng, Houseman Health Services Administrator of the Ward received the items. 4 Nov. 05
