Occupants of burning taxi make miraculous escape

The driver and other passengers traveling in a Toyota Astra taxi escaped unhurt when the car caught fire at the Suame roundabout in Kumasi.

It was completely burned at the time firefighters arrived.

The driver, Kwame Afriyie, who could not stand the sight collapsed and was taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where he was revived.

The incident happened about 2230 hours on Tuesday and was believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.

Afriyie, who later spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said he was driving towards Old Tafo from Abrepo and on reaching the roundabout, the engine suddenly stopped.

He said as he tried to re-start it, the engine caught fire and spread quickly to engulf the entire vehicle.
