Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Matthew Asante, the Obuasi Police Commander, has expressed discomfort with the growing incidence of violence in mining communities in the area.
Violent attacks resulting in bodily injury topped the list of crimes reported in the municipality, last year, he told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Obuasi.
He said there were as many as 65 cases relating to causing harm that of unlawful damage stood at 58, while threats of harm came to 48.
DSP Asante said due to the illicit mining activity popularly referred to as “Galamsey”, the people always carry cutlasses, shovels and other implements and with any slightest misunderstanding they strike.
He vowed that the police would stop at nothing to rein in the lawlessness and stop the impunity and that the police would go after all law offenders and ensure that they are brought to justice to serve as deterrent to others.
