Obuasi high streets named after Atta Mills, P.V. Obeng

Residents of the Obuasi Municipality have endorsed the naming of some principal streets in the town after the late President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Evans Atta Mills, and the late Ing. Dr. Paul Victor Obeng.

The Assembly also honoured the late De-graft Kwame Adjei, one of the longest serving District Chief Executives of Adansi, for his contribution towards the development of Adansiman, with a street being named after him.

Mr. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, revealed this to Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Ashanti Regional Minister, when he visited the Assembly during the second ordinary meeting, as part of his familiarisation tour, to inspect on-going projects by the government in the municipality.

The MCE indicated that the layout, scanning, tracking, geo-referencing, mapping and ground trusting had been completed, and that the Assembly was expected to make a formal input into the street-naming exercise to enable the Statutory Planning Committee approve the names for the accomplishment of the project by the 20th of this month.

He indicated the initial phase of the Street naming and Property Addressing System undertaken in 2011 had 100 streets named, and 1,200 houses numbered in the central business district, including Obuasi Central, Antobuasi, Zongo, New Nsuta/J.J. and Mangoase.

He said 750 existing streets had been identified for naming under the current and final phase, saying, due consultation with the communities at the five Zonal Council levels and Adansi Traditional Council level had been done, with several names being proposed for the Assembly to put the seal on.

The MCE underscored that a power-point presentation on the exercise will be made to the house by the Street Address Team (SAT).
