Gomoa-Obokrom (C/R), Jan. 22, GNA – The people of Gomoa-Obokrom in the Central Region have, with high sense of commitment backed by intensive communal labour, completed three development projects estimated at more than 500 million cedis within the past twelve months. They are a new three-classroom block with an office and a store for the Obokrom Junior Secondary School, a borehole, and a market. The Gomoa District Assembly funded the school project as well as roofing sheets and bags of cement for the market, while the Adventist Development And Relief Agency (ADRA) also provided financial assistance for the borehole.
Mr. Albert Ekow Esaah, Deputy District Fire Officer for Winneba Fire Station and Assemblyman for Gomoa Obokrom/Gomoa Kumasi/Gomoa-Enyimaim Electoral Area, announced these at a fund raising ceremony at Obokrom at the weekend.
Mr Esaah said part of the old JSS block would be converted into a library centre to enhance learning and appealed to both Obokrom citizens at home and abroad as well as NGO’s and well-wishers who could assist them with books and other learning materials to come to the aid of the community.
Nana Kusah-Obo VI, Chief of Obokrom praised teachers of Obokrom Junior secondary School for making it possible for the school to maintain the first position it chalked in the Basic School Certificate Examinations three years ago. Nana Kusah-Obo renewed the support and co-operation of chiefs and other stakeholders in the town for teachers to help raise the standard of education in the area.
Earlier, Mis Alberta Coffie, Nursing Officer In-Charge of Gomoa-Oguaa Health Centre, had enlightened the gathering on issues which promote teenage pregnancy in the Gomoa District and the nation in general, and strongly advised parents and guardians to give their teenage female children all their basic requirements to curb teenage pregnancy.
She said the issue was becoming a more serious burden on health providers, the government and the nation as a whole, adding, “We must collectively adopt effective strategy to bring it under control for the good of the nation.”
Mis Coffie also stressed the need for pregnant women in the area to ensure regular attendance of antenatal clinics for proper guidelines that could lead to safe deliveries. More than three million cedis was collected at the function in aid of development projects planned for the town.
