Objects used in killing Captain Mahama identified

Various life-threatening objects were used in attacking Captain Maxwell Mahama by angry residents of Debkyira-Boase who mistook him for an armed robber.

The residents, who would not listen to pleas of the soldier to the effect that he was a mistaken identity and that he was not a criminal as they thought, pummeled him continuously with various objects until he died.

Even in death, they torched his body a situation that has been described by Former President Jerry John Rawlings who is a former soldier as cruel and uncivilized.

18 individuals who have so far been arrested in connection with the death of the soldier who was the detachment commander at Diaso in the Upper Denyira West District of the Central Region.

The arrested persons include; William Baah, Bismark Donkor, Philip Badu, Kofi Nyame, Anthony Amoa, Kofi Badu and Yaw Amor.

The rest are, Dolly Kormla, Domeh Francis, Sonu Mwaunyo, Sonu Emmanuel, Ernest Ally, Kojo Mfum, Kwasi Buah, Issah Manu and Prince Amponsah.

Background

The late Captain Mahama was a military officer with the 5th Infantry Batallion (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra but on detachment duties at the Denkyira Obuasi of the Central region.

Captain Mahama, according to his subordinates, was seen jogging along the main road and as he stopped by to ask some women for directions, the women saw a pistol on him.

The women who were alarmed by the discovery of the pistol on Captain Mahama mistook him for an armed robber thereby alerting their assembly member who allegedly organised some men to lynch him and even burnt him in the process.
