Obiri Boahen abandons government over controversial tow levy

Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) appear to be gagged from further commenting on the implementation of the controversial mandatory towing levy after stating their positions to kick against the implementation.

“I do not think I can speak for the government now because I do not have the mandate [again]to speak for the governing party on this levy implementation”, Deputy General Secretary of ruling party Nana Obiri Boahen.

“However, I will speak as individual to voice my sentiment out. …it a bad policy more especially when the contract has been given to one particular company. …it is not a good policy”, he believes.

“We have a lot of insurance companies in this country and why don’t we also have other companies to join the excise and only one company is entrusted with that responsibility”, Nana Obiri Boahen quizzed.

“I think that a lot more to be done and I am against the law and I will join AFAG to demonstrate against it when the time come”, the private legal practitioner revealed on Top Story.

According to him, the NPP minority in parliament acted as lawmakers in ensuring the law is passed despite individual party members reservations.

“I am speaking as an ordinary Ghana who is going to suffer this inclusive law in a sense that the MPs themselves said they are going to refer the matter to the Executives”, Lawyer Obiri Boahen fumed.
