OB Amponsah Blasts Empress Gifty Over Silence on Bullgod’s Jesus Comment

Comedian OB Amponsah has aimed at gospel musician and television host Empress Gifty for remaining silent during a live television broadcast in which entertainment pundit Bullgod made a controversial remark referring to Jesus as a “fool.”

The incident occurred on a recent episode of United Showbiz on UTV and quickly ignited a social media firestorm, with many viewers calling the comment blasphemous and offensive. While the backlash against Bullgod intensified online, OB Amponsah turned his attention to the show’s host, questioning her failure to speak out in the moment.

“How can a gospel musician who is also a host of the show allow someone to insult the Messiah back and forth?” OB Amponsah wrote in Twi in a Facebook post. “You could have gone on a strike until he rendered an apology. However, you didn’t do so. All you could do is to wear makeup and come sit on the show without doing anything.”

The comedian’s comments have added fuel to the growing debate around accountability in live television broadcasting and the responsibilities of hosts—especially those who publicly profess religious beliefs. Many social media users echoed OB’s sentiments, arguing that Empress Gifty’s dual role as a gospel artist and TV host should have compelled her to take a stand or interrupt the conversation.

Others, however, called for calm, suggesting that the live nature of the show may not have allowed for an immediate reaction, and that producers should also bear responsibility for content aired on their platform.

As reactions continue to pour in, both Empress Gifty and UTV have yet to publicly address the controversy or issue a statement. The incident has reopened conversations around faith, free speech, and ethical responsibility in Ghana’s entertainment landscape
