Nyinahin SSS wins competition in computer programming

Kumasi, March 26, GNA – Nyinahin Catholic Senior Secondary School in Atwima-Mponua District won the Ashanti Region i2CAP (I too can programme) Computer Programming competition held at Saint Louis Secondary school in Kumasi at the weekend.

T.I Ahmadiyya Senior Secondary School came second followed by Prempeh College.

Bechem Presbyterian Secondary School won in Brong Ahafo Region followed by Dormaa Ahenkro Senior Secondary School and Sunyani Senior Secondary School.

They received desktop computers, accessories, cash, T-shirts and books on computer science and mathematics.

Winners would represent their regions in the national competition to select winners to participate in the world competition scheduled for Cairo, Egypt in 2008.

About 120 students from 30 senior secondary schools in the two regions participated in the competition organized by the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (AITI-KACE) and sponsored by the management of Finatrade Foundation.

The i2CAP computer programming competition is designed to introduce students in senior secondary schools to ICT with a focus on computer programming.

Mrs Dorothy Gordon, Director General of AITI-KACE, addressing the closing session said there were enthusiasm in the programme among the students and commended the teachers for their efforts and dedication. She said the Centre would work with the schools to create opportunities for the students to develop their careers in ICT. Madam Patricia Appiagyei, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive in an address read on her behalf, commended AITI-KACE for the initiative. She stressed the need for the youth to be equipped with knowledge and skills in ICT to enable them contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
