NYEP pays 850 million cedis as allowances

Sunyani, July 5, GNA – The Sunyani Municipal office of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) paid 850 million cedis from February to June as allowances to 331 youth engaged as interns and health extension officers under the programme. Mr. Alfred Ofori Annye, the municipal coordinator, told the Ghana News Agency that the municipal office between also paid 208 million cedis between October last year and June this year to 52 youth engaged in waste and sanitation management.

He said 4,500 youth had registered under the programme in the municipality out of which 250 farmers had been provided with logistics and other farming inputs estimated at 289 million cedis. Mr. Annye said the programme intended to recruit the youth for community protection, non-crop agriculture as well as trade and vocation training.

He said 165 youth were engaged as interns at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Internal Revenue Service, Ghana Highways Authority, Ghana Library Board, Nursing training colleges, feeder roads and Ghana Telecom while 166 were also engaged as health extension officers. Mr. Annye appealed to Ghanaians not to politicize the programme but rather to encourage the youth to register.
