NYC observes Youth Day

Accra, Aug. 11, GNA – This year’s International Youth Day celebration would be held at Sunyani from August 10 to August12, the National Youth Council (NYC) said on Wednesday.

The International Youth Day celebration on the theme: “Youth in an Intergenerational Society” would focus on promoting peace, mutual respect and understanding among the youth, a statement signed Mr Joe Mantey, National Coordinator, said.

The day is observed to increase understanding of global interdependency and the external factors affecting the social and economic environment of young people.

The day is also observed to stimulate research, data collection and analysis of the problems facing the youth and to recognise the important contribution that young people can make at shaping and designing the future of humanity.

Activities planned for the celebration include public discussion on issues such as HIV/AIDS; civic education; drug abuse and youth entrepreneurship development.

About 200 young people selected from the Northern, Brong Ahafo and Ashanti Regions will take part in the programme.
