NYA boss condemns Mahama

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Emmanuel Asigri, has taken a swipe at former President John Dramani Mahama for wading into public comments on vandalism by rampaging youth of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Mr Asigri, former President John Dramani Mahama lacks the moral authority to comment on matters of vigilantism, especially when he failed to crack the whip on lawless National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters during his term in office.

“Whether they (rampaging youth) are affiliated to NPP or not, it is a worrying situation. So, those of our opponents who feel it is an opportunity to run round and call us names and say all manner of things, painfully including the former President who under his watch for eight years, through to 2016 when we were even in an election year, we saw these things (violence) happen. I can recall the things that happened in Ashaiman… Today, he is sitting and seeing this as a worrying situation,” he stated.

His comments come in the wake of a sarcastic remark by the former President that the NPP are reaping what they sowed in opposition.

This was after a series of assault on state institutions and officers by party youth to demand for jobs.

Three of such recent attacks occurred in Karaga, Sissala West and Techiman.

Mr Asigir, who was speaking in an interview with Class FM’s Kwesi Parker-Wilson after a press conference aimed at admonishing the youth to take advantage of government policies on Tuesday, October 31 charged the police to swiftly deal with the unfortunate situation.
