Kumasi, Oct. 6, GNA – The National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI), has been urged to modify its proficiency examination to ensure that candidates undergo compulsory implant training before writing the examination.
This is to enable them to acquire entrepreneurial skills to aid their career development and education. Mr Seth Daniel Oduro, Manager of Kumasi Vocational Training Centre (KVTC), made the appeal at the third graduation ceremony for 213 trainees, who received certificates, in Kumasi. He explained that implant training was a short course run by NVTI in collaboration with the National Board for Small-Scale Industries (NBBSI) for the youth on record-keeping, marketing, advertising, estimation, management and entrepreneurship.
Mr Oduro said entrepreneurial training was crucial to empowering the youth with the requisite knowledge to enable them to set up businesses and reduce the high unemployment rate in the country. He said it was unfortunate that as a developing country, Ghana was yet to develop a vibrant vocational training policy, something that has accounted for unemployment among the youth. Currently, there are 38 recognized vocational training institutions in the country as against about 532 Senior High Schools. Mr Oduro said it was time high premium was put on vocational training to expand the country’s human resource base. He urged parents to encourage their children to take up technical and vocational education.
