The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) of Ghana has announced that its licensing examinations scheduled for July to August 2014 would proceed as scheduled in spite of the nationwide strike by student nurses and midwives.
A statement signed by Mr Felix Nyante, Acting Registrar, NMC, and copied to the GNA assured all candidates in the ongoing and forthcoming licensing examinations for Registered General Nursing, Registered Mental Nursing, Registered Community Nursing and Registered Midwifery that the council had put all measures in place to ensure a successful examination in spite of the strike.
It reminded the striking student nurses and midwives that clinical attachment was an integral part of their training programme and that if they fail to satisfy that aspect of the course the necessary regulations would be applied.
The statement urged all striking student nurses and midwives to resort to negotiations as a means of resolving their grievances rather than strike.
