Jirapa, Feb. 10, GNA – Mr. Caesar Kale, Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, has appealed to nursing trainees to help identify nutritional foods in the localities and to educate pregnant women to eat them to reduce malnutrition among mothers and children. He said the country was endowed with vegetables that could be used to improve the health of pregnant women and children but lack of knowledge of their nutritional values had become a challenge to them resulting in high maternal and child deaths in the country.
Mr. Kale was addressing students of the Jirapa Nursing and the Midwifery Training colleges at the second matriculation of the twin health institutions in Jirapa.
He appealed to trainees of health institutions to form clubs in the communities where they are located and visit churches, mosques and market places to educate the people on best health practices. “By this way, you would be rendering valuable health services to the people to take charge of their health needs rather than to wait and allow them to fall sick and come to the health facilities to burden you,” Mr. Kale said.
Mr. Kale advised the trainees to avoid the practice of prescribing drugs to people, especially those in the rural communities as that might lead them to become addicted and turn out to be social misfits in the society. He appealed to the students to accept postings to rural communities to render quality healthcare services to the people, especially pregnant women and children. 10 Feb 10
