Nurses desert OPDs over salary arrears

Registered nurses across the country have withdrawn their services from the outpatients departments (OPD) of the various public hospitals.

The nurses are protesting delays in the payment of their salary arrears by the government.

The development comes on the back of a similar action by officials at the Accra Psychiatric hospital last week.

The situation puts the fate of many patients who will be seeking medical care today and days ahead in danger.

Starr News’ Josephine Asabea Akonor who visited the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital reported that the OPD of the teaching hospital looks deserted.

She said the angry nurses appear determined to get their concerns addressed before resuming duties.
