Ho, Sept. 22, (Dzokoto) GNA- Nurses at the Ho District Hospital on Wednesday downed their tools in support of their colleagues in other parts of the country over levels of payments of the Additional Duty Hour Allowance (ADHA).
As a result, work was disrupted at the Hospital and patients who had come for consultation had to leave.
Dr Emmanuel Akorli, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that no notice had been given to the Hospital Administration about any intended action.
“They (Nurses) came alright but went into a meeting leaving the wards to student Nurses and as for me the whole day I have been attending to only administrative work,” the distraught Doctor said.
At the Out Patients Department (OPD) the GNA saw a few people waiting, and an elderly man who was being led out of the hospital told the GNA that they had been there about an hour earlier but were told they could not be attended to because of the industrial action.
At the Volta Regional Hospital, the GNA saw pockets of Nurses in a relaxed mood one with a piece of red cloth who was heard telling another Health Worker that her colleagues were at a meeting.
Dr Geoffrey Nyamuame, Medical Superintendent who could not be reached, as he was said to be on his rounds, told the GNA on telephone later that, the full complement of Nurses were not at post.
He said no one had told him what was happening and that all he heard was that they were meeting in the premises of the Hospital. Dr Nyamuame, however, said work had been going on under some strain.
