Nurses at 37 are working

Accra, Oct 29, GNA – The Ghana Armed Forces on Wednesday said nurses at the 37 Military Hospital were at post and had not gone on strike, contrary to what the Tuesday, October 28, edition of the “Evening News” newspaper reported.

The Public Relations Directorate of the Ghana Armed Forces Directorate said the nurses were currently at post, and “there has never been any occasion that medical and paramedical staff of the 37 Military Hospital ever laid down their tools.”

A statement signed by Lt. Colonel E. W. K. Nibo, Director of the Directorate, said nurses at the hospital enjoyed 85 per cent Extra Duty Allowance.

It said the maximum Additional Duty Hours (ADH) allowance was 128 per cent and that it was incorrect to say that nurses in Government health institutions were enjoying 152 ADH allowance.

The statement denied that Military personnel were enjoying a 33 per cent salary increment and explained that the recent salary adjustments ranged between 10 and 12 per cent.

It said the Ministry of Defence was aware of the salary disparities and had taken the necessary steps to correct the anomaly long before the publication.

The statement said a committee was currently reviewing the pay and allowances of all civilian employees of the Ministry of Defence. The Ministry gave the assurance that the Hospital was providing the necessary services as it had always done.
