Nurses accommodated for one cedi a month

Accra, Jan.13, GNA – A Philanthropist on Thursday gave out a six-bedroom apartment to house Nurses at the local Health Post at Mayera Faase, a suburb of Pokuase in the Ga District, at a token rent of one cedi each month.

Mr Joseph N. A, Hyde, Board Chairman, Ga Rural Bank, Amasaman, who gave out the house, said the gesture was meant to give some respite to Nurses, who faced accommodation difficulties and thus declined to accept postings to the area.

He said the one cedi rent was only meant to remind the occupants that someone owned the property.

He told the Nurses that they would only continue to occupy the apartment as long as they remained Nurses in the area. Earlier, Mr Hyde on behalf of the Ga Rural Bank donated assorted health equipment worth 10 million cedis to the Mayera Faase Health Post. The items included blood pressure monitor, infant weighing machine, vomit bowl and dustbin, blankets, bed sheets and a wall clock. He said the donation formed part of the Bank’s social services to the community, adding that it had set aside 30 million cedis to support brilliant but needy students in second cycle institutions in the District to ensure that they attained higher education. So far the Bank has assisted 21 secondary school students from communities within its catchment area with 16 million cedis. Mrs Alimatu Adams, Medical Officer-In-Charge of the Health Post, praised the Bank for the gesture and enumerated the few problems confronting the clinic.

She said the clinic lacked adequate facilities to meet the ever-increasing health needs of the communities, adding, “we are serving 25 communities in addition to those from hamlets and cottages and because of inadequate facilities we sometimes have to refer some patients to other health facilities”.

Mrs Adams said they also lacked logistics such as drip stands, screens, delivery beds and cabinets among other things.
