NUGS welcomes freeze on unapproved fees

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) said on Friday that it welcomes the freeze announced by the Ghana Education Service on “unapproved fees” charged by senior secondary schools.

“It is equally refreshing to note that the government has offered to cater for some items on the students’ bill,” NUGS said in a statement signed by Mr Quuaranchie Adama-Tettey, Press and Information Officer.

NUGS expressed the hope that second cycle institutions would comply with the directive “to ensure a smooth commencement of the academic year.”

It urged the government to take steps to make computer lessons available to all students since information technology has become a necessity.

Meanwhile, NUGS asked the Ministry of Education to investigate alleged mysterious deaths of students at Mfantsiman Girls Secondary School, Saltpond
