Not everything that is faced can be changed but nothing can be changed until it is faced.
Riding on the conviction that government will fulfill its promise of settling all arrears due the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) in three installments, NUGS-KNUST wishes to plead with UTAG to return to the classroom on one hand and on the other hand cautions any group of people who have resorted to littering the airwaves with mischievous comments intended to aggravate the labour front whilst blowing the media war out of proportion to put a stop to it.
Though the strike by UTAG might be the best option at the moment to press home their demands it is imperative for our dear teachers to realise the eventual collapse of the university calender and the consequences it brings forth on us as students and a nation. NUGS-KNUST appreciating the leniency showed government by UTAG for the past two years, wishes on the same pane to pray UTAG to come back to the class room as government fulfills its part of the agreement.
It is evident that the recent payment of ex-gratia to M.Ps and the comments, posture and conduct of some political figures has not in any way helped in the amicable settlement of this impasse in our educational front. This is a national crisis and all well-meaning Ghanaians must direct all appeals to our lectures to return to the classroom since government has exhibited a sense of commitment to address their demands rather than engage in this unending media war.
NUGS-KNUST prays that our dear teachers heed to our plea and distance our secretariat from any callous desire of embarking on any demonstration because it is inappropriate, uncalled for, misleading and out of place in this modern era of dialogue and consensus building.
