NUGS condemns murder of Nigerian student

Accra, Sept. 11, GNA 96 The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) on Monday condemned the murder of a second year Nigerian student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and urged the Police to expedite their investigations and bring the perpetrator to book.

In a statement signed by Mr William Yamoah, President and Abdulai Abdul-Rahaman, Press and Information Secretary, NUGS described the murder as 93barbaric, unfortunate and unacceptable in any society=94. NUGS expressed its condolences and sympathies to the bereaved family and gave the assurance that the perpetrator would be made to face the full rigours of the law.

=93NUGS further wishes to assure all international students that Ghana is a peaceful country and they should not allow this incident to (drive) fear into them or have a negative picture about the country.=94 It said it would work tirelessly with the education authorities to ensure that the security on the various campuses and institutions were enhanced to prevent such incidents in future.

It urged Nigerians students at KNUST to exercise restraint and not to take the law into their own hands.

NUGS also urged students of KNUST to comply with the security measures put in place by the Authorities of the University since they were in their interest.
