Ntotroso community in Asutifi District of Brong-Ahafo Region is set to establish a health training school and it is expected to take off by the close of the year.
The project, estimated at GHC146, 00.00 would initially be financed by Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF), a fund established by Newmont Ahafo Mine for the execution of the company’s corporate social responsibility programmes in its catchments area.
Barima Twereku Ampem III, chief of Ntotroso, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday that the community was not levying the citizens but would use its share of monies from NADeF to execute the project.
He said all the 10 communities under the NADeF have Sustainable Development Committees (SDC) for the implementation of their respective projects with funding by the Foundation.
Ntotroso is surrounded by communities such as Achirensua, Wamahinso, Hwidiem, Kenyase Number Two and Goaso and have senior high schools.
Barima Twereku Ampem said the Ntotroso SDC took the decision to establish the health training school.
He appealed to the government through the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) as well as the Ghana Accreditation Board (GAB) to assist them with accreditation once the project takes off.
Barima Ampem expressed the hope the MoH and GHS would also offer the necessary assistance in getting qualified staff to make the school operational.
