Nsuta youth appeal to Otumfuo

Nsuta, (Ash), Jan. 3, GNA – The youth of Nsuta in the Sekyere West District of Ashanti, have appealed to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11, to expedite action on the determination of a petition filed by some elders and kingmakers in the town against the paramount chief, Nana Adu Agyei Bosanfo III.

According to the youth, the continued silence on the petition, which was sent by the elders in 2004, was causing much anxiety and agitation among them, while threatening the peace and security in the town. Speaking on behalf of the aggrieved youth at a press conference at Nsuta on Wednesday, Mr Owusu Banahene, the spokesman, said the youth were much concerned about the impasse between the kingmakers and the paramount chief and it was time the Asantehene, who was the nephew of the “Oduro ne Agyen stool” of the town to intervene and act on the petition to bring peace and unity among the people for speedy socio-economic development in the town.

According to Mr Banahene, the kingmakers have accused Nana Bonsafo for taking away some of the stool regalia from the stool room in the palace. He said the kingmakers have also accused the paramount chief of allegedly committing acts that were taboo and abominable to the stool while at the same time, unlawfully selling large parcels of stool lands and pocketing the proceeds to himself. Mr Banahene said the kingmakers who found the acts unbecoming of a paramount chief had sent a petition to the Asantehene calling for investigations and possible destoolment of the chief. The spokesman said the youth had patiently waited to hear the outcome of the petition but to no avail and humbly appealed to Otumfuo to take up the matter to bring peace and unity back in the town.
