Nsuta bans one week funeral celebration

Nsuta (Ash), May 17, GNA – The Nsuta Traditional Council has announced an immediate ban on the 93one-week” funeral celebration in the area. Nana Adu-Agyei Bonsafo III, the Omanhene, said the situation where bereaved families marked the seventh day after they had lost a relative with huge funeral gatherings amidst donations by sympathizers would no longer be allowed. This is part of measures by the Council to cut down on funeral expenses. The Omanhene said money that went into such celebrations should rather be channelled into children’s education. Nana Adu-Agyei was speaking at a durbar held to mobilize funds in aid of the construction of a GH¢150,000.00 Community Centre. The centre, which is being implemented through voluntary contributions by citizens of the town both resident and non-residents, has reached the lintel level. Mr Ebenezer Akuoko Frimpong, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere Central, urged the people to step up efforts at improving their living conditions through self-help. The district assembly would support communities that take the initiative to tackle their development challenges themselves. The DCE on behalf of the assembly donated 100 bags of cement towards the project. Mr Kwabena Owusu, Unit Committee Secretary, praised the people for their self-help spirit and urged them to make sure that it was sustained.
