NSS justifies suspension of allowance for 8,000 personnel

Deputy Executive Director for the National Service Scheme (NSS), Gifty Oware Aboagye has justified why they have suspended payment for some 8,000 personnel.

Speaking to Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, she said some of the affected personnel failed to register for the National Identification Authority (NIA) card. She explained that the NIA together with NSS produces the card for personnel and after that, they verify and authenticate before payment is made.

According to her, those who have not registered can go the various regional offices and register so they are verified before their allowances for September and October are paid.

‘’They should do the right thing by going to the various centres across the regions and register. If they do that, they will receive their allowances for both September and October,’’ she said.

Allowances for some 8,000 National Service personnel have been withheld over suspected fraud. A statement from NSS said, 57 persons have also been arrested in Tamale, and are being investigated by Police.

‘’Management wishes to assure all national service personnel that auditing of payment vouchers for October, 2017 personnel allowances have been concluded, and that, payment would be done immediately the biometric validation is also concluded.

Management wishes to appeal to the general public to assist the Scheme by providing information to the security agencies on people who are impersonating for national service,’’ the statement.

The statement further stated that, ‘’Management wishes to assure all national service personnel that auditing of payment vouchers for October, 2017 personnel allowances have been concluded, and that, payment would be done immediately the biometric validation is also concluded.

Management wishes to appeal to the general public to assist the Scheme by providing information to the security agencies on people who are impersonating for national service.’’
